 The 1967 Major League Baseball playoffs featured a team that was just dying to break a streak. The Boston Red Sox had already been without a World Series Championship for a long time, but they felt like this was their season to end that streak. They were led by Triple Crown Winner Carl Yastrzemski and pitcher Jim Lonborg. These players were two of the best players at their respective positions in all of baseball. With these men at the helm they were confident that they could turn away from the curse of the Babe.
Things looked good for them throughout the playoffs. They managed to advance through their opponents all the way to the World Series. It looked like this season might be the one for the Red Sox to turn things around.
The St. Louis Cardinals were the whole story in the National League. They were the only team in all of Major League Baseball to win 100 games and they had high hopes entering the playoffs. They would not stand alone however, as there were a lot of other solid
teams that had hopes to take them out in the playoffs. The Cardinals would not fall though, and they would advance to the World Series to take on the Boston Red Sox.
The First game would feature Bob Gibson for the Cardinals and Jose Santiago for the Red Sox. Gibson was an ace for the Cardinals, but he was trying to overcome a leg injury that kept him out for a large chunk of the season. Santiago was a young pitcher that seemed ready to meet the challenge.
Both pitchers pitched great and Santiago even helped his own cause. He hit a homerun in the 3rd in order to keep pace with the Cardinals. He allowed just 2 runs on the game. Unfortunately Gibson would only allow one, giving the Cardinals the first win.
In game two Lonborg would take the mound for the Sox. He would pitch an absolute gem, helping the Sox shutout the Cardinals. On the offensive end Yastrzemski managed to knock two balls out for homeruns. There series was then tied 1-1.
In game three the Cardinals were able to bounce back from their struggles with 3 runs in the first 2 innings. This momentum would help them hold off the Sox as they traded runs in the later innings. The Cardinals won the 3rd game 5-2.
The Cardinals were excited to send Gibson back to the mound after his brilliant start in game one. Gibson did not disappoint as the Cardinals managed to shutout the Red Sox 6-0. This would give the Cardinals the 3-1 advantage, putting the Sox on the brink of elimination.
The Red Sox just refused to die. Lonborg took the mound and pitched brilliantly. The series was brought 3-2.
Game 6 featured an explosive offense from the Red Sox. They managed to hit 4 homeruns, including 2 from Rico Petrocelli and one from Yastrzemski, his 3rd of the series. The series was then tied 3-3 after an amazing comeback from the Red Sox.
In game 7 Gibson and Lonborg would take the mound as the aces for each team. Gibson would not disappoint the fans of the Cardinals as he pitched yet another solid game. The Baltimore Orioles were led by Frank Robinson. Robinson was fresh off of an MVP season and he was ready to keep things going through the playoffs. Robinson was a Triple Crown winner and teams were forced to give him some respect.
The Orioles were able to feed off of the strength of Robinson and they managed to make their way all the way to the World Series to fight for a championship.
The National League featured the Dodgers, led by a stellar pitching staff. While Robinson was the Triple Crown winner in the AL, Koufax won a different type of Triple Crown in the NL. Koufax would lead the league in Wins, ERA and strikeouts that season, leading his team to victory in almost every game that he stepped on the mound. Koufax proved the season before that he could get it done in the playoffs as well and helped carry his team to the World Series yet again.
This World Series between the Orioles and Dodgers would bring a lot of excitement after the regular season. These two teams were at the top of their leagues, making this a matchup featuring the teams that were truly the best in the league.

Those three runs would be enough to take out the Dodgers as they would not score during the game. The final score of the game was 6-0.
Game three would be a classic pitchers duel between Wally Bunker and Claude Osteen. The Orioles were once again able to put a run on the board in the 5th inning however. The Dodgers were not able to score yet again and they were shut out for the 2nd game in a row.
Game 4 featured another amazing pitching performance from the Orioles who managed to shut out the Dodgers again for the 3rd consecutive game. This would be another 1-0 game, as Robinson managed to hit another homerun. This would put away the Dodgers. Robinson would be the World Series MVP.
