By Madyson Terrell

The 1967 season in Major League Baseball was a great season. The season featured the relocation of one team, the Kansas City Athletics. The team would play their last season in Kansas City. They would relocate to Oakland following the season.

The season was dominated by many of the same names as the year before in the National League. Roberto Clemente was arguably the best hitter in baseball at the time. He managed to hit .357 on the season, leading all of Major League Baseball in batting average. The homerun champion for the National League was none other than Hank Aaron. Aaron was in his prime at this time, chipping away at the homerun record that he would later set. He managed to knock 39 balls out of the park during the season. Orlando Cepeda was the best RBI man in the National League. He was playing for the St. Louis Cardinals. He managed to knock in 111 runs on the year. Mike McCormick was the pitcher with the most wins during the season. He won 22 games for the San Francisco Giants. Phil Niekro posted a 1.87 ERA for Atlanta on the year, the best ERA of any pitcher in baseball. Jim Bunning was the strikeout champion. He struck out 253 batters for the Phillies.

The American league was dominated by one player, Carl Yastrzemski. Yastrzemski was the Triple Crown winner that season. He led the American League in Batting Average and RBIs. He also tied Harmon Killebrew for the most homeruns in the American league. He finished with a .326 batting average, 44 homeruns and 121 RBIs.

Jim Lonborg, Earl Wilson and Joe Horlen dominated the pitching scene. Lonborg and Wilson won 22 games a piece on the season to lead the American League. Horlen posted an ERA of 2.06, leading the AL. Lonborg also managed to lead the AL in strikeouts with 246.

These players would be keys in the success of their teams. The Boston Red Sox led the American league in wins. They managed to win 92 games while losing 70 on the season. Their success was largely due to Yastrzemski and Lonborg. They managed to lead the league in many hitting and pitching categories during the season.

The Tigers and Twins also managed to have solid seasons. They won 91 games each. The last two teams over .500 in the AL were the White Sox and Angels. They won 89 and 84 games respectively.

The St. Louis Cardinals led the way in the NL. They won 101 games on the season while only losing 60. They were 10.5 games ahead of the next best team in the NL, the San Francisco Giants. The Giants managed to win 91 games while dropping 71 on the season. The Cups and Reds won 87 games each. The Phillies managed 82 wins and the Pirates were the last team with a record of .500 or better on the season. They finished with a record of 81-81 on the season.

1966 MLB Playoffs

By Edwin Leonard

The 1966 MLB Season was exciting, but things would get even more exciting as the regular season turned to the playoffs. These playoffs featured a couple teams that would manage to grind their way through their opponents on their way to the World Series.

The Baltimore Orioles were led by Frank Robinson. Robinson was fresh off of an MVP season and he was ready to keep things going through the playoffs. Robinson was a Triple Crown winner and teams were forced to give him some respect.
The Orioles were able to feed off of the strength of Robinson and they managed to make their way all the way to the World Series to fight for a championship.

The National League featured the Dodgers, led by a stellar pitching staff. While Robinson was the Triple Crown winner in the AL, Koufax won a different type of Triple Crown in the NL. Koufax would lead the league in Wins, ERA and strikeouts that season, leading his team to victory in almost every game that he stepped on the mound. Koufax proved the season before that he could get it done in the playoffs as well and helped carry his team to the World Series yet again.

This World Series between the Orioles and Dodgers would bring a lot of excitement after the regular season. These two teams were at the top of their leagues, making this a matchup featuring the teams that were truly the best in the league.

The Baltimore Orioles would have to kick things off in Dodger Stadium. This would be a difficult place to play. The Dodgers had a huge home following and they were sending Drysdale out to the mound.

The Orioles chased off Drysdale early, scoring 5 runs before the end of the 4th inning. That early start would be good enough to bring them a win in game one by a score of 5-2. Moe Drabrowsky would get the win for the Orioles. Frank Robinson would make his presence felt with his first homerun of the World Series.

The next game would be between Jim Palmer and Koufax. This matchup started as a pitchers duel, but the duel would only last for so long. Koufax and Palmer both allowed no runs through the first 4 innings, but the Orioles finally put some runs on the board in the 5th inning. Those three runs would be enough to take out the Dodgers as they would not score during the game. The final score of the game was 6-0.

Game three would be a classic pitchers duel between Wally Bunker and Claude Osteen. The Orioles were once again able to put a run on the board in the 5th inning however. The Dodgers were not able to score yet again and they were shut out for the 2nd game in a row.

Game 4 featured another amazing pitching performance from the Orioles who managed to shut out the Dodgers again for the 3rd consecutive game. This would be another 1-0 game, as Robinson managed to hit another homerun. This would put away the Dodgers. Robinson would be the World Series MVP.
