Born as Shaquille Rashaun O'Neal in Newark, New Jersey on March 6, 1972, Shaq, as he was nicknamed, became a larger than life figure as an athlete, musician and actor.
Standing at 7 ft 1 inch (2.16 m) and listed as weighing 325 pounds (147 kg), Shaq was one of the most dominating players of his era.
Currently the oldest player in the NBA, Shaq has spent 18 years in the league and is now playing for his 6th different team.
The son of Lucille O'Neal and Joe Toney, Shaq and his family were abandoned by his biological father when he was born. Lucille, a municipal-worker, married a co-worker, Philip Harrison, who joined the army in 1974.
By the time he was 12, the family lived on military bases in New Jersey, Georgia and West Germany. It was in West Germany at the age of 13 that (a now 6' 7") Shaq discovered the game of basketball.
His stepfather was transferred to Fort Houston (San Antonio, Texas) 2 years later. There, Shaq led the team to a
undefeated regular season as a junior.
The following season, Shaq led his team to a state championship.
Shaq went on to attended Louisiana State University (LSU) to continue his basketball career and study business. He had met the basketball coach at the time, Dale Brown, years before in Wildflecken, West Germany.
While playing for Brown at LSU, Shaq was a two-time All-American, two-time SEC player of the year, and received the Adolph Rupp Trophy as NCAA men's basketball player of the year in 1991.
Shaq left LSU early after his 3rd year to enter the NBA, but returned to school in 2000 and received a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies.
Shaq was drafted and signed by the Orlando Magic in 1992, receiving him a three year, $41 million contract.
He won the 'Rookie of the year' award for that season and helped lead the Magic to the 1995 NBA Finals.
He also joined Team USA to form 'Dream Team II", which won the World Championships in 1994.
After 4 seasons with the Magic, Shaq signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers.
There, he won 3 consecutive championships in 2000, 2001, and 2002 as the team's "Batman" with Kobe Bryant playing the role of "Robin".
The duos relationship was rocky and filled with feuds, leading to the older Shaq's trade to the Miami Heat in 2004 for Lamar Odom, Caron Butler and Brian Grant.
Paired with a new "Robin" in Dwyane Wade, he won his fourth NBA championship in 2006.
A month before turning 36, Shaq was traded halfway into the season to the Phoenix Suns for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.
Unable to help them get past the 1st round of the NBA playoffs, Shaq was again traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Sasha Pavl
ovic, Ben Wallace, $500,000 and a 2010 second round draft pick. He has since joined the Boston Celtics as a FA in 2010.
Shaq's individual accolades include the 199900 MVP award, the 199293 NBA Rookie of the Year award, 15 All-Star game selections, 3 All-Star Game MVP awards, 3 Finals MVP awards, 2 scoring titles, 14 All-NBA team selections, a World Championship and 3 NBA All-Defensive Team selections.
Other than basketball, Shaq has successfully released 4 rap albums including 1 platinum album.
He has also appeared in numerous films like Kazaam! and has starred in his own reality shows. He currently has 8 children with 2 different mothers and has been divorced since 2007 after 5 years of marriage.

By Basketballgamepreview
Jerry West college basketball and NBA career were only the beginning in his long and eventful life. It could be said that no other NBA figure had more impact on the sport of professional basketball than Jerry West.
Jerry West's career spanned from his college days in West Virginia, his stint with the Los Angeles Lakers as an NBA legend and then to the front office. West is also considered the best NBA GM of all time.
Jerry West began his career playing for the West Virginia Mountaineers in 1957. West led the team to the NCAA Finals, losing to the University of California. In the NCAA Tournament he scored a total of 160 points in five games.
West was the dominant player in the tournament and ended his college career with a 24.8 point average and two selections as an All-American. West also played in the 1960 Summer Olympics along with Oscar Robertson, winning the gold medal.
Drafted by the Minneapolis Lakers in 1960, soon to become the Los Angeles Lakers, Jerry West was the symbol of grit and tenacity for his new team.

West career in the front office was equally incredible. The Los Angeles Lakers hired him as the general manager in 1982 and West wasted no time in assembling a team that won three consecutive NBA Championships with Pat Riley as head coach.
West presided over "Showtime" a nickname of the 80s Lakers team and his first NBA Draft pick was James Worthy, a critical component in the success of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Other pieces to the puzzle added by West were Jamaal Wilkes, Michael Cooper and Byron Scott.

1965 season in the NBA
By Edwin Leonard
The 1965-66 NBA Season would be the 20th season in the history of the NBA. The league was in a stretch at this point that was dominated by the likes of the Boston Celtics. While the Lakers were a tough rival in the opposite conference, the Celtics had managed to win 7 straight NBA Championships to this point.
The Celtics would find themselves in stiff competition in this season. While they were the favorites to take the league in that season after winning so many consecutive championships, they would have to pass through the likes of Wilt Chamberlain and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Chamberlain was a dominant player that managed to lead the league in almost every major category. He went on to score the most points, pull down the most rebound and shoot the ball at a higher percentage than any other player in the league during the 1965-66 season. With Wilt leading the way the team managed to take the honors of having the best record in the NBA through the regular season. They managed to win 55 games. This total was one more than what the Celtics were able to achieve that season.
On the other end the Lakers were once again leading the way in the Western Division. The Western Division was admittedly the weaker division of the two and the Lakers were the only squad to win more than 50 percent of their games. The Lakers were a solid team however and were led by NBA legend Jerry West.
West and Chamberlain would make up two of the 5 players in the All-NBA First Team. The other players that would achieve this honor were the great Oscar Robertson, Jerry Lucas and Rick Barry.
Wilt Chamberlain would go on to win the Most Valuable Player award. Rick Barry was just a rookie that season and would win the Rookie of the Year award after making the All-NBA First Team. The Coach of the Year honors would go to Dolph Schayes, the coach of the 76ers.
6 of the 9 teams in the league would make the playoffs. Each division would send the top 3 teams in the league to the playoffs. The bottom two teams from each division would square off for a chance to take on the top team in the Division.
The Celtics would manage to win the first series despite falling behind 2-1 to the Royals, led by Robertson. In the west, the St. Louis Hawks managed to take home a victory. These teams would square off against the 76ers and Lakers.
The Lakers managed to pull out a series victory and would make it to the finals. The Celtics managed to take 4 of 5 away from the 76ers despite the fact that Chamberlain scored 28 points and averaged 30 rebounds per game.
The Lakers and Celtics squared off again and would finish the Finals in dramatic fashion. The two teams went the distance, stretching the series to 7 games. Boston was able to pull things out in a close 95-93 game to finish things off, winning their 8th NBA Championship in a row.
